Music educator Sang Tong In 1941, he joined the Composition Department of the National Music Academy and studied under the German composer Flecker. In 1946, he was admitted to the National Conservatory of Music again, studied under Austrian Schloss, and attended lectures in Professor Tan Xiaolin's class; In 1947, he composed the violin music "Night View" and the piano music "In that Far Place", which was an early attempt by my country's composers to adopt free atonal creative techniques. In addition, he also collaborated with Qu Xixian on the film music "Night Club" and "Sunny Day", and he personally conducted the recording. In 1948, in order to avoid arrest by the authorities, he was transferred to the North Jiangsu Liberated Area and renamed Sangtong. Since the autumn of 1949, Sang Tong has taught at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for a long time, serving as the director, professor, vice president and dean of the Harmony Teaching and Research Section of the Composition Department of the College. In addition to his creation, Sang Tong is mainly engaged in the research and teaching of harmony acoustics. His creation focuses on the pursuit of national style, using the harmony technique of national mode, and arranging piano accompaniment for many folk songs and revolutionary songs. The music he arranged is exquisite and elegant, making it an excellent example of national harmony. His solo piano piece "Seven Piano Minutes on the Theme of Inner Mongolia Folk Songs" won the bronze medal of the 6th Youth Festival. In addition, he has also composed: piano pieces "Three Overtures", "Caprice", orchestral pieces "Spring River Flower Moon Night" (with Chen Gang), "Remembrance" (with Chen Mingzhi), etc. The cello "Fantasia" composed in 1950 was premiered in 1951 by Soviet cellist Shevchenov and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. In 1957, after the cellist Wang Lei performed this piece at the World Youth Festival, he performed it in Japan, the United States and other places, and recorded records and cassettes. It has now become a repertoire for cello teaching in music schools. He has authored "Six Lectures on Harmony Special Topics","Theory and Application of Harmony","A Discussion on the Structure of Pentatonic Longitudinal Harmony", and "Introduction to Polytonality Writing Techniques" and other harmony papers. As an expert who has been working in the music industry for sixty years, Sang Tong has made important contributions to China's music industry. Through the analysis of Sang Tong's piano music works, we can see that he skillfully combines Western composition techniques with Chinese national culture, and his works have not only distinct national characteristics, but also the style of the times and more prominent personality characteristics. He uses a variety of creative techniques and the unique musical language of the piano to express the connotation of the music, and because of the many characteristics of the piano itself, the music has a new meaning, which occupies an important position in the creation of piano music in our country.
