On this day, 28 years ago, September 25, 1997 (August 24, 1997, the first large-scale international conference was held after Hong Kong's return to China. Venue of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund On September 25, 1997, the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund held in Hong Kong ended. From September 23 to 25, the 52nd Annual Meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. This annual meeting is the largest international conference held in Hong Kong after Hong Kong returned to the motherland. It is also the first time that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have held annual meetings in China. Present at the meeting were political leaders, finance ministers and bank presidents from more than 180 countries around the world. Li Peng, Premier of the State Council of my country, attended the opening ceremony of the annual meeting and delivered a speech, putting forward six proposals to help developing countries achieve sustainable development. Vice Premier Zhu Rongji participated in some activities of the annual meeting and delivered a speech at relevant meetings. World Bank President Wolfensohn and International Monetary Fund President Camdessus delivered speeches, explaining current international financial issues and the work of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The conference adopted two important resolutions and reached consensus on issues such as poverty eradication.
