On December 22, 1887, Indian mathematician Srinivasar Ramanujan was born.
Ramanujan was born in Erod, Tamil Nadu, southeastern India. In 1898, at the age of ten, he entered a middle school in Gombergonem, where he seemed to have his first exposure to formal mathematics. At the age of 11, he had mastered the mathematics of the tenants living in his home, who were students at the Government University. At the age of 13, he mastered the knowledge from a borrowed book on advanced trigonometry. His biographer says his genius began to manifest at the age of 14.
In 1913, Ramanujan sent a long list of complex theorems to three Cambridge academics, H.F. Baker, E. W. Hobson, and G. H. Hardy. Only Hardy, an academician at Trinity College, noticed the genius shown in Ramanujan's theorem.
Including Ramanujan's own discoveries and those developed and proved in collaboration with Hardy, there are properties of highly synthetic numbers, integer division functions and their asymptote and Ramanujan theta functions.
He has also made significant breakthroughs and discoveries in the following fields: Gajl functions, modular forms, divergent series, hypergeometric series, and prime number theory.
Although many propositions can be called the Ramanujan conjecture, there is one particularly suitable for this title, which has been very influential in subsequent work. The Ramanujan conjecture is an assertion about the size of the coefficients of the tau-function, which is a typical cuspform in a modular form theory. This turned out to be a result of the proof of the Weill conjecture decades later, and the reduction step is complex.
