The main industrial sectors are textiles, leather, sugar, salt, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, food processing, printing, electricity, etc. It is one of the least developed countries in the world declared by the United Nations, with a per capita GDP of 150 US dollars in 1991. It mainly exports live animals, bananas, etc., and imports crude oil, machinery and spare parts, food, vehicles, building materials, medicines and woven products. In 1700 BC, the "Bunt" country famous for producing spices was established. In the 7th century, the Arabs moved in and established several trade points and sultanates along the coast. In the 16th century, Portugal, Britain, France, and Italy invaded one after another. In 1887, the northern part of Somalia and in 1925, the southern part of Somalia became a British "protectorate" and an Italian colony, respectively, called "British Somalia" and "Italian Somalia". The whole territory was controlled by the British in 1941. On June 26 and July 1, 1960, the northern and southern regions of Somalia became independent, and on July 1, they merged to form the Republic of Somalia. On October 21, 1969 (now National Day), Siad seized power and changed the name of the country to the Somali Democratic Republic. In January 1991, the Siad regime was overthrown and changed to its current name. Since then, it has been in a state of armed division among various factions.
