On July 2, 2007 (May 18, 2007 in the lunar calendar), Fu Zuoyi's daughter, Fu Dongju, died. Fu Dongju (1924-2007), also known as Fu Dong, was the eldest daughter of Fu Zuoyi, a patriotic general of the Kuomintang. Fu Dongju joined the Clarion Society, a progressive youth organization led by the Communist Party of China, in Chongqing in 1941. She took advantage of her favorable conditions to provide some confidential information and important documents about the Kuomintang to the underground party organizations of the Communist Party of China in a timely manner and handed them over to Zhou Enlai, which played a great role in the struggle of the Kuomintang. In 1942, Fu Dongju was admitted to the Southwest United University of Kunming and studied English. During this time, Fu Dongju further embraced progressive ideas, actively participated in the student movement, and was absorbed into the party's underground organization as a member of the "stronghold". In December 1945, Fu Dongju joined the Democratic Youth League, a peripheral organization of the Communist Party of China, in Kunming. In the summer of 1946, Fu Dongju graduated from Southwest United University and came to Tianjin Dagong Newspaper as a supplement editor. On November 15, 1947, Fu Dongju joined the Communist Party of China. In 1948, during the intense Liaoshen Campaign, Liu Ren, the head of the Urban Work Department of the Central Bureau of Jinchaji, sent someone to secretly enter Tianjin to meet Fu Dongju and convey the party's instructions to her to do Fu Zuoyi's work. Fu Dongju immediately went to Beiping and talked to Fu Zuoyi, clearly telling her father that she was a representative sent by the Communist Party. During the Battle of Pingjin, Fu Dongju talked with her father many times, and from time to time put newspapers and pamphlets published in the liberated areas on Fu Zuoyi's desk. At the same time, Fu Dongju will learn the situation and report it to the underground party organization in Beiping of the Communist Party of China in a timely manner, providing an important basis for the PLA High Command to make correct judgments and make correct decisions. Throughout the Battle of Pingjin, Fu Dongju always worked by Fu Zuoyi's side and contributed to the peaceful liberation of Beiping. Nie Rongzhen once spoke highly of Fu Dongju's role in his memoirs. After the liberation of Beiping, Fu Dongju went to Tianjin as the editor of the supplement of the Progress Daily. In August 1949, Fu Dong joined the Southwest Service Group of the Second Field Army and participated in the establishment of Yunnan Daily. In March 1951, Fu Dong was transferred to the People's Daily and worked in the Journalism Department and the Literature and Art Department successively. In 1982, he was seconded to the Hong Kong branch of Xinhua News Agency as deputy director of the editorial department, engaged in United Front work. In 1995, Fu Dong retired from his position at the People's Daily. On the evening of July 2, 2007, he died in Beijing due to ineffective medical treatment.
