On this day, 89 years ago, on June 14, 1936 (April 25, 1936, the lunar calendar), Zhang Binglin passed away. Zhang Binglin, a modern democratic revolutionary, thinker and master of Chinese studies, died in Suzhou on June 14, 1936. Zhang Binglin, known as Taiyan, was born in Yuhang, Zhejiang Province. He participated in the reform movement in his early years. After the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, he was wanted and exiled overseas. He met Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Japan and was determined to make revolution and overthrow the rule of the Qing Dynasty. In 1903, he published "Refuting Kang Youwei's Theory of Revolution." He wrote a preface to Zou Rong's "Revolutionary Army" and angered the Qing court and was arrested and imprisoned. In prison, Zhang Binglin and Cai Yuanpei jointly initiated the establishment of the "Recovery Society." After being released from prison in 1906, he traveled eastward to Japan again, participated in the Alliance, and edited the "Min Bao" to debate with the reformists. In 1909, the Restoration Association was reorganized in Japan and broke with the Alliance Association. In 1913, after the Song Jiaoren case, he instigated a crusade against Yuan Shikai and was imprisoned by Yuan Shikai. During the "May-4th" period, its revolutionary will gradually waned and broke away from the Kuomintang. After the September 18th Incident, he firmly advocated resisting Japan. In his later years, he made a living by selling literature in Shanghai and held a seminar on Chinese Studies in Suzhou. Zhang Binglin wrote many books in his life, such as "Zhang's Series Series","The Continuation of Zhang's Series Series","Zhang's Series Series Three Parts", etc., and he was very innovative in philosophy, literature, history, language and literature.
