On December 15, 1998, important progress was made in the research on the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Chronology Project", the "top priority" project of the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" National Science and Technology Research Plan. The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Science, Education, Culture, Health and Sports Committee held special reports. Li Ruihuan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Ruihuan said that the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties were the period of formation of our country's civilized country and the period of laying our country's cultural heritage. The achievements of civilization during this period have influenced China for thousands of years. However, it is a pity that we do not have an exact year for this period. The establishment of the three-generation chronology has created favorable conditions for scientific research on the five thousand years of my country's civilization history and is also a prominent contribution to the study of world history. Li Ruihuan said that according to the Marxist perspective, human beings 'understanding of the world mainly relies on material production activities, and through material production activities, they gradually understand the laws of nature, the relationship between man and nature, and the mutual relationship between man and man. As a powerful driving force for the progress of human civilization, science and technology not only profoundly changes the face of the material world, but also profoundly changes people's ability and way to understand the world, and changes people's views on the world. Some of people's one-sidedness and errors in society's understanding of history are problems of social sciences themselves, and some are limited by the level of natural sciences, that is, the so-called limitations of social and historical conditions and the level of scientific and technological development. Looking back at the development history of human understanding, every major breakthrough in natural sciences has led to a leap forward in understanding many issues in the field of humanities, and even led to a new understanding of some existing conclusions. Humanities must pay attention to and catch up with the development of science and technology, be good at drawing nutrition from the latest achievements of science and technology, find means, and improve their own level of understanding. The results achieved by the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties Dating Project" are the results of the combination of humanities and modern science and technology. We celebrate this major achievement, but also the way it was achieved, and hope that more topics will adopt this approach in the future. In September 2000, on the basis of passing the acceptance of each topic, the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Dating Project" proposed that the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Chronology" and the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Chronology Report on the Phased 1996-2000 Achievements of the Xia, Zhou Dating Project" were supported by multidisciplinary research results, met as many conditions as possible, and were consistent with relevant data as possible, and were mutually consistent with each other in various historical stages, and passed the national acceptance. The engineering expert group and the engineering acceptance team believe that this is by far the "most scientifically based" chronology of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties. It is the best achievement that can be achieved under current conditions and represents the highest level of chronological research. On September 15, the overall project of the Xia-Shang-Zhou Dating Project passed the acceptance of a 15-member acceptance team headed by Chen Jiaer, director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the final review opinion, the acceptance expert team believed that during the implementation of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasty dating project, it collected, sorted, identified, and analyzed handed down documents and ancient writing materials such as oracle bone inscriptions, and bronze inscriptions, and estimated relevant astronomical and calendar records through modern astronomical calculations. Dates, sites and tombs with typical significance in formulating a chronology were sorted out and studied, and the carbon-14 dating method was improved for series of samples. On this basis, the conclusions drawn were comprehensively analyzed, and major scientific achievements in chronology during the Xia, Shang and Zhou periods were achieved. Among them, relatively accurate dates are proposed for the kings below Pangeng in the late Shang Dynasty and the kings before the first year of Gonghe in the Western Zhou Dynasty, and a basic chronological framework is proposed for the early Shang Dynasty and the Xia Dynasty. In particular, the estimation of the anniversary of King Wu's reign, the reign of Wu Ding, the boundary between Xia and Shang Dynasties, and the beginning of the Xia Dynasty is of great innovative significance. The chronology of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties obtained above is the most scientifically based chronology of ancient history before 841 BC in my country. On November 9, 2000, after five years of hard work by more than 200 experts and scholars, the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, which traced the origin of China civilization and inspired the direction of China civilization, finally had a relatively clear chronology standard. On this day, the "Chronology of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties" officially announced by the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties Project" extended my country's historical chronology from the first year of Gonghe in the late Western Zhou Dynasty, that is, 841 BC, for more than 1200 years, making up for a major shortcoming in the study of ancient civilization in China. Chinese civilization is one of the universally recognized civilizations, and it is the only civilization in the world that has been continuously transmitted without interruption. However, the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, which marked the rise to prosperity of Chinese civilization, have been everlasting and have become a major shortcoming in China history and world history. This "Chronology of Xia, Shang and Zhou", completed at the turn of the century, has made huge and solid efforts to fill the gap in our country's ancient chronology. According to this chronology, the beginning of the Xia Dynasty in my country was about 2070 BC; the boundary between Xia and Shang Dynasties was about 1600 BC; the migration of Pangeng to Yin Dynasty was about 1300 BC; The boundary between the Shang and Zhou Dynasties was 1046 BC. The chronology also lists the specific years of the reign of the 10 kings of the Western Zhou Dynasty, and lists the approximate years of the reign of the 12 kings from Pangeng to Emperor Xin (Zhou) in the late Shang Dynasty. According to Li Xueqin, chief scientist of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Chronology Project, the "Xia, Shang and Zhou Chronology Project", a key scientific and technological research project launched in May 1996 during the Ninth Five-Year Plan, has hit on the historical problem that scholars in the past dynasties have struggled to overcome since the Western Han Dynasty. Over the past five years, this project has gathered more than 200 old, middle-aged and middle-aged experts and scholars in disciplines such as history, archaeology, astronomy, and scientific and technological dating in our country. In accordance with the requirements of systematic engineering, 9 topics and 44 special topics have been set up. Comprehensive and new research and textual research on chronology issues in the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties have been carried out from different angles, different aspects, and different methods. Different from the traditional chronology research institutes for more than a thousand years in the past, this project adopts a multi-disciplinary joint research and cross-research method, especially for those eras that are highly controversial and crucial to the entire dating framework. A very cautious attitude is adopted and the conclusions are strived to be supported by multiple clues and multiple angles.
