Scottish philosopher David Hume

David Hume
David Hume (26 April 1711 - 25 August 1776) was a Scottish agnostic philosopher, economist, and historian who is regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of the Scottish Enlightenment and Western philosophy. Although modern scholars only focus on Hume's work on his philosophical thoughts, he first became famous as a historian, and his book "History of England" became a basic work in the English historical community at that time for 60 to 70 years.
Historians generally classify Hume's philosophy as outright skepticism, but some argue that naturalism was also a central idea of Hume. Scholars who study Hume often divide him into those who emphasize an element of suspicion (such as logical positivism) and those who emphasize an element of naturalism.
Hume's philosophy was deeply influenced by the empiricists John Locke and George Berkeley, as well as by some French writers. He also absorbed the theories of various English intellectuals such as Isaac Newton, Francis Hutchison, Adam Smith and others.
