Baoji (Baoji) Chengdu (Chengdu) Railway officially opens to traffic

The Baocheng Railway starts from Baoji, Shaanxi Province in the north and reaches Chengdu, Sichuan Province in the south. It connects with the Chengdu-Chongqing and Chengkun lines, with a total length of 669 kilometers. It is the first set of mountain railways connecting the northwest and southwest regions. It started construction in Chengdu and Baoji in July 1954. On July 12, 1956, it connected with the Huangsha River. In 1958, the whole line of Jordan was delivered and operated. The line entered the Qinling mountainous area after leaving Baoji, and circled along the Qingjiang River. It passed through the Qinling Pass with a long tunnel and went south along the Jialing River to Guangyuan, crossing the Jialing River 16 times in total. There are 304 tunnels on the whole line, extending 84 kilometers, and 1,001 large, medium and small bridges, extending 28 kilometers. The total extension of bridges and tunnels accounts for 17% of the length of the line. The longest tunnel on the whole line is the Xinhui Longchang Tunnel, which is 4,245 meters long. After the completion of the Baocheng Railway, due to the large slope and many tunnels, electrification was carried out. The first phase of the project, the 91-kilometer electrification of the Baoji-Fengzhou section, was completed in 1961. The electrification of the whole line was completed in 1975. The completion of this railway changed the situation of the "Shu Road Difficulty" and created important conditions for the development of economic construction in the southwest region. It is the first railway trunk line connecting the northwest and southwest. It is also the first railway to break through the "Shu Road Difficulty".

The Baocheng Railway is the first railway in New China with arduous projects. In order to overcome the terrain height difference, the line rose in three horseshoe shapes and one spiral shape. The line was rearranged on three floors and reached a height of 817 meters. Then, a tunnel more than 2000 meters long passed through the Qinling Pass and entered the Jialing River Basin. The main works completed along the line include: 71.16 million cubic meters of subgrade earth and stone; 304 tunnels, with a total extension of 84.4 kilometers; 1001 bridges, with a total extension of 28.1 kilometers; the total length of bridges and tunnels accounts for about 17% of the line length, and 667.71 kilometers of track laying on the main line. 58 serious landslides and 272 collapses occurred from the start of construction to delivery and operation. The amount and difficulty of remediation projects are considerable.
