On this day, 28 years ago, on December 21, 1997 (November 22, 1997, the lunar calendar), my country built Asia's largest transonic wind tunnel. On December 21, 1997, the national key project and Asia's largest transonic wind tunnel was completed at the China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center, and the ventilation test was successfully carried out. It marks that my country has a world-class high-speed wind tunnel, and its transonic aerodynamic research and testing capabilities have entered the world's advanced ranks. The large-scale transonic wind tunnel is a large-scale basic project for my country to independently develop aerospace industry. The central leadership is very concerned about this project. The main structure of the newly built transonic wind tunnel is 66 meters long and 33 meters wide. The cross section of the test section is 2.4 meters ×2.4 meters, which is the highest in Asia. The wind tunnel has advanced overall performance, adopts the latest contemporary technology, the test results are more real and reliable, and the simulation state is closer to the real flight conditions. It is a milestone project in the aerodynamic research of aerospace vehicles in China. Transonic aerodynamic research is one of the most complex and difficult problems in aerospace vehicle development. Due to the high technical performance requirements and difficult construction of this wind tunnel, only a few developed countries have mastered the technology of designing and manufacturing large transonic wind tunnels. So far, China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center has built 42 wind tunnels of various types, including low-speed wind tunnels, transonic wind tunnels, supersonic wind tunnels, shock wind tunnels, and low-density wind tunnels, forming a large-scale, complete wind tunnel group.
