The famous Italian philosopher Bruno passed away

On February 17, 1600, in the Piazza de Félore in Rome, a man of about 50 years old was tied naked at the stake. Perhaps due to the torture of long-term prison life, his body seemed very weak, but his spirit was not decadent at all, and his eyes were shining. When the executioners lit the fire, at the last moment of his life, he solemnly called: "Fire cannot conquer me. The future century will understand me and know my value."』

He is Giordano Bruno! He was an advanced thinker, materialist philosopher, and natural scientist in ancient Italy.

Bruno was born in 1548 in Nora, a small town near Naples, Italy. Due to his poor family, he had no chance to study and further study, so he had to enter a monastery and become a monk. He lived in a monastery for more than 10 years, but due to his interest in natural science and philosophy, especially his study and research of Copernicus's "On the Movement of the Celestial Bodies", he doubted the theology of religion and became a rebellious "heretic". In 1577, Bruno was expelled, forcing him to go into exile for 15 years. He stayed in Switzerland, Britain, Germany and other places. During this period, he was mainly engaged in lectures and writing activities, and successively wrote important works such as "On Reason, Origin and Unity" and "On Infinity, the Universe and the Worlds". He not only inherited Copernicus's "Sun Center Theory", but also further developed Copernicus's theory and formed a new view of the universe. He wrote articles and delivered speeches everywhere, dealing a heavy blow to the feudal theological tradition.

In 1591 in Venice, Bruno was finally imprisoned and taken to Rome. However, during the trial in the Inquisition Court, Bruno refused to confess and was finally sentenced to burn at the stake by the church. The development of history confirmed Bruno's dying prediction. 300 years later, in 1889, a monument to Bruno was built where he died heroically.
