131 years ago today, on September 19, 1894 (August 20, 1894 lunar calendar), the Shanghai Huasheng Textile General Factory founded by the Westerners started construction. From the 1870s, in addition to continuing to run military industries in the name of "self-improvement", the Westerners also established civilian enterprises under the name of "seeking wealth", operating departments such as ships, telegraphs, mining, smelting and textile industries. In 1878, Hou Budao Peng Ru-cong proposed the establishment of Shanghai machine weaving layout. After several changes, Zheng Guanying of Li Hongzhang's faction was the general manager in 1879, and the patent was approved for 10 years. Later, Gong Shoutu was reassigned to take over. It was put into production in 1890 and the business was prosperous. It was destroyed by a fire in 1893. In 1894, it was rebuilt by Li Hongzhang's school of Sheng Xuanhuai, and it was rebuilt into Huasheng Textile General Factory, with branches. It is in the form of official supervision and commercial operation. The purpose of its establishment is to see that the sale of foreign cloth in China is very good and profitable, and it can "sell the benefits of foreign merchants".
