The situation of the French bourgeois revolution

The victory of the bourgeois revolution in France at the end of the 18th century aroused hatred from reactionary forces in European countries. In the summer of 1893, the European anti-French coalition forces led by Britain surrounded France from all directions. Prussia, Spain, the Kingdom of Sardinia, and Britain all lit wars on the French border and occupied some places; the reactionary forces in the country also cooperated with the inside and outside and carried out rampant activities. The revolution was in crisis. The Jacobins, who had just seized power, did not flinch in the face of this serious situation, showing the firmness and perseverance of the revolution. They resolutely adopted a series of revolutionary measures, which inspired the people's revolutionary spirit, strengthened the combat effectiveness of the army, and successively defeated the Prussian and Western occupation forces. However, Toulon, which the British occupied, could not be captured for a long time and became a major threat to the revolution.

Who should we send to conquer Toulon? The leaders of the Revolutionary Republic suddenly thought of Napoleon. He is a democratically minded officer, young, brave and able to use his brain. At that time, many aristocrats and military officers tried their best to oppose the revolution or fled abroad, but he continued to serve and swore: "Only accept orders that comply with the decrees of the National Assembly" to actively support the new French Republic. After Napoleon received the order, he learned that Toulon was a fortress in southern France, with a strong city defense and a strong assault was necessary. So he worked day and night to supervise artillery, train artillery, and build a powerful artillery force.

On December 16, 1793, the general offensive began. It did not go well at first. When the artillery had just entered the position, many gunners were wounded or killed by the British shooters, and the attack was thwarted. Napoleon saw this scene and cried out: "Our artillery, all fearless warriors, go forward!" He led the charge forward. Inspired by him, the French army moved forward with great courage, and finally on December 19, they defeated the royal army and the coalition of England and Spain, captured Toulon, and removed the threat of the republic.
