94 years ago today, April 14, 1931 (February 27, 1931 in the lunar calendar), the Second Spanish Republic was established. The revolutionary flag flew over Madrid and the Second Spanish Republic was established on April 14, 1931. The First Spanish Republic was overthrown in 1874 and the absolute monarchy was restored. The Great Economic Crisis of 1929 severely hit the autocratic monarchy. In August 1930, the sixth bourgeois revolution in Spanish history broke out. Republican political parties formed a political alliance and elected a leading body, the "Revolutionary Committee", calling on the people to overthrow the monarchy and establish a republic. On April 12, 1931, the Republicans won the municipal election. King Alfonso saw that his situation was hopeless and fled abroad on the 14th. The monarchy was overthrown and the "Revolutionary Council" announced the establishment of a republic. This is the second republic in Spanish history. The Constituent Assembly election was held on June 28. The Republican Party and the Socialist Party United Front won and established an interim government headed by right-wing Republican Kara Zamora. The Constitution of the Republic was adopted on December 9, stipulating that universal suffrage should be implemented and a unicameral parliament should be established, with the government responsible to the parliament. The President is elected by the Electoral Council for a six-year term.
