Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France

Anyone who travels to Paris, the capital of France, must go to the Arc de Triomphe to take photos. There are very few people who have never been to Paris who do not know the name of the Arc de Triomphe. The prestigious Arc de Triomphe was built on July 29, 1836, and has a history of {sys:(year(now)-1836)} years.

The Arc de Triomphe is located on Charles de Gaulle Place in the northwest of Paris. Twelve streets radiate around it, so Charles de Gaulle Place is also called the Star Place.

The construction of the Arc de Triomphe began in ancient Rome. On February 22, 1806, Napoleon I defeated the Allied forces of Austria and Russia in the Battle of Ostelllitz, returned home triumphantly, and passed through the Star Square. With the cheers of the people, Napoleon suddenly had an idea and decided to build a city gate in the Star Square to welcome the French soldiers who would return to Korea in the future. On August 15 of that year, the city gate broke ground according to the design plan of the French architect Charles Gran. After several twists and turns in the middle, construction stopped from time to time. After 30 years, on July 29, 1836, the Arc de Triomphe, which was 50 meters high and 45 meters wide, was completed.

There are doors on all sides of the Arc de Triomphe, which are engraved with the names of 386 generals who followed Napoleon's expedition. There are also four reliefs documenting major battles, the most famous of which is the "1792 Volunteer Expedition" designed by the famous French sculptor Franc ̧ ois Rood, facing the Elysee Pastoral Street. Later, the French national anthem "Marseillaise" was produced. This relief is in an important position in the history of 19th century French and world sculpture.

When the Arc de Triomphe was built, it was originally planned that all four megalithic reliefs on the front and rear of the facade would be designed by Lüde, but the minister Thiers changed his mind and asked Lüde to complete only one of them. After much thought, Lüde decided to use the content of "The Expedition". After this relief came out, it immediately overwhelmed the other three in thought and art: Cortovy's "Triumph" and Elksvi's "Resistance" and "Peace". Instead of specifying the specific plot of the French army's departure from Marseilles in 1792, Lüde gave contemporary revolutionaries the heroic image of ancient Roman republicans. He created six volunteers and an allegorical Muse. The Muse soared in the air, holding a sword in his right hand. Under the Muse, the old soldiers and naked children are in a prominent position; the four soldiers are tense and full of fighting spirit. The whole picture is only seven characters, but it reflects the momentum of thousands of troops and indomitable progress, filled with the patriotism of the French people and the thought of fighting for freedom.

From the completion of the Arc de Triomphe to this day, the people of Paris have always maintained this tradition: every major festival, a soldier wearing Napoleonic armor, holding a sharp cleaver, guards the statue of "The Expedition", so as to remind people of the French nation. The pride of the nation inspires the French people to fight for freedom. Every year, the French National Day military parade and other grand national celebrations are held at the Arc de Triomphe. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe is a place for visiting heads of state to pay their respects. From June 1988 to July 1989, the French government spent more than a year carrying out comprehensive maintenance of the Arc de Triomphe.

Comment: One of France's landmark buildings, condensing the French national spirit.
