On September 1, 1904, Radcliffe College awarded Helen Keller a degree
On this day 121 years ago, on September 1, 1904 (July 22, 1904 lunar calendar), Radcliffe College awarded Helen Keller a degree. Helen Keller is pictured after receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow, England. On September 1, 1904, Miss Helen Keller won the victory with human will and the power of education in the struggle against misfortune, and graduated from Radcliffe College with honor today. Miss Keller was born in 1880 in Tuscambia, Alabama. She lost her sight and hearing due to illness at the age of two. Five years later, Ms. Anne Sullivan took on the education of Keller. Ms. Anne-Sullivan taught Keller to read Braille, to "hear" the vibrations of Sullivan's throat by touching it, and to learn to type on a special typewriter. When Miss Keller was preparing for her university studies at the Young Girls' School in Cambridge, Ms. Sullivan used the touch-and-talk method to repeat to Miss Keller what the teacher had said. During her university studies, Miss Keller used a special Braille textbook, and again Ms. Anne-Sullivan helped to understand what the teacher taught. Miss Keller not only completed the course successfully, but also participated actively in social life. Miss Keller's autobiography, "My Life", was published in 1903.
