On this day, 114 years ago, on January 30, 1911 (January 1, 1911 in the lunar calendar), Hubei revolutionaries established a Literature Society in Wuchang. Hubei New Army revolutionary groups often change their names to confuse the authorities for secret work. In August 1910, after the Qunzhi Society changed its name to Zhenwu Society, its number quickly increased to nearly a thousand people. In December, the activities of Zhenwu Society were discovered by Li Yuanhong, head of the 21st Mixed Association, and the revolutionaries decided to change their name to the Literature Society. The inaugural meeting elected Jiang Yiwu as the president of the Literary Society, Zhan Dabei as the minister of clerical affairs, and Liu Fuji as the minister of review. The meeting decided to expand the organization, develop strength, develop members among the new army soldiers in the name of "studying literature", and publish "Dajiang Newspaper" and distribute it to all battalions for free. Only one month after its establishment, the Literary Society has developed members in every new army in Hubei except Ma Babiao.
