Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Su Buqing, an outstanding mathematician in China, was born on September 23, 1902
On this day, 123 years ago, September 23, 1902 (August 22, 1902 in the lunar calendar), Su Buqing, an outstanding China mathematician, was born. Su Buqing (1902.9.23-2003.3.17), formerly known as Su Shanglong. A native of Pingyang County, Zhejiang Province. Famous mathematician. After graduating from high school in 1919, he went to Japan to study. He graduated from the Department of Mathematics at Tohoku Imperial University in Japan in 1927 and later entered the graduate school of the school. He graduated with a doctorate in science in 1931. In March 1931, at the request of the famous mathematician Chen Jiangong, he returned to China with the honor of a Doctor of Science from Tohoku Imperial University in Japan. He was employed at the National Zhejiang University and successively served as associate professor, professor, department head, dean and dean of the Department of Mathematics. During this period, he founded the "Differential Geometry School" with Chen Jiangong. In October 1952, due to the adjustment of departments and departments across the country, he came to Fudan University to serve as professor and dean of the Department of Mathematics, and later served as provost, vice president and president of Fudan University. He has served as a member of the Faculty of China Academy of Sciences, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a representative of the National People's Congress, a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth and Sixth National People's Congress, a vice chairman of the Seventh and Eighth National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic League. Won the 1978 National Science Conference Award. He has published more than 160 scientific papers in academic journals at home and abroad. He died on March 17, 2003 in Shanghai at the age of 102. Su Buqing is mainly engaged in research in differential geometry and computational geometry, and has achieved outstanding results in the research of affine differential geometry and projective differential geometry, and has made outstanding achievements in general spatial differential geometry, high-dimensional spatial conjugate theory, geometric shape design, computer-aided geometric design, etc. He discovered a fourth-degree (third-order) algebraic cone in his research on general surfaces. This major breakthrough has aroused strong repercussions in the international mathematical community. He is the first expert in my country to study "K-exhibition space" and has an indisputable position in the international mathematical community in terms of radiating differential sets. In his youth, Su Buqing was praised by the international mathematical community as "a brilliant mathematical star rising in the Eastern land." Later, he made great achievements in the research on projective differential geometry and the introduction of projective curves, and was internationally recognized as "the first geometrically in the East." Author of more than 150 papers. He has authored 10 monographs such as "Differential Geometry","Introduction to Projective Curves", and "Introduction to Projective Surfaces". The research results "Hull Lofting Project" and "Curved Surface Method Hull Line Production Procedure" won the National Science Conference Award and the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award respectively. He founded the internationally recognized Zhejiang University School of Differential Geometry; He won the 1956 National Natural Science Award for his research on the geometry and projective curves of the "K-exhibition space". Many of his achievements have been cited extensively by mathematicians in many countries or written as important contents in their monographs. Su Buqing not only left a huge wealth and glorious thoughts for future generations, but also loved education. He taught on stage for 60 years and cultivated a large number of mathematical talents. He influenced his students with his rigorous academic attitude, tolerated his students with a generous and kind mind, and inspired his students with his painstaking and dedicated spirit of research. He summed up three ways to cultivate outstanding students. One is to encourage them to catch up with him as soon as possible, the other is not to block their path to success, and the third is to drive them away and push them behind their backs. At that time, the "Su Buqing Effect" was formed in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a firm talent echelon was formed to march towards the mathematics kingdom. Su Buqing is a leader in my country's education field and deserves to be a generation of mathematics master. In 1931, Su Buqing resolutely returned to China under extremely harsh conditions and was employed by Zhejiang University. Due to the paucity of materials and books, Professor Su Buqing once again traveled across the ocean and translated and copied back 46 papers, about 200,000 words, day and night. He and Professor Chen Jiangong led their disciples to the cave to study mathematics. It was at this time that he lit the spark on the sacred plateau, which led to the outstanding contributions of Pan Chengdong, Wang Yuan, Chen Jingrun, etc. to Goldbach's conjecture, and our country's medal in the International Olympic Mathematical Competition. In order to commemorate Su Buqing's great achievements in the field of mathematics and education, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the "Su Buqing Mathematics Education Award" initiated by Fudan University and other units. Comment: Our country's outstanding mathematicians have achieved countless achievements and will always be worthy of admiration and learning from future generations.
