On June 23, 1908, the United States returned part of the Boxer Indemnity to China
On this day, 117 years ago, June 23, 1908 (May 25, 1908 in the lunar calendar), the United States returned part of the Boxer Compensation to China. On June 23, 1908, in accordance with President Roosevelt's annual address, the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States reduced the amount of Brigadier General's U.S. Boxer's indemnity to US$13,655,492.69. The difference between this amount and the original US$24,440,778.81 was refunded to China in a total of US$10,785,286.12.
