In February 1927, he initiated the establishment of the "Shanghai Writers Association" with Ye Shaojun, Hu Yuzhi and others. He lived in Paris in May 1927. "Literary Outline" was published in the same year. He returned to China in early 1929, taught at Yanjing University and Fudan University, and edited Literature magazine. In 1932,"Illustrated History of China Literature" was published. In 1934, he published collections of papers such as "Essays on China Literature" and "Ranch Collection". In the spring of 1935, he moved to Shanghai to serve as dean of the School of Liberal Arts of Jinan University, and editor-in-chief of the "World Library" series. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he participated in the launch of the Shanghai Cultural Community National Salvation Association and founded the National Salvation Daily. In 1938,"The History of Popular Literature in China" was published. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he organized a "Fu Society" with Hu Yuzhi, Xu Guangping and others, published "The Complete Works of Lu Xun","History of the Communist Party of China","Lenin Wenxun, etc., and compiled 5 series and 24 volumes of" The Illustrated History of China Edition ". After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he initiated the organization of the "China Association for the Promotion of Democracy" and edited the weekly Democracy.
