On this day 66 years ago, on March 18, 1959 (February 10, 1959 in the lunar calendar), French director Luc Besson was born. Luc Besson French Director, Screenwriter, Producer Bio: Luc Besson was born in Paris, France on March 18, 1959. From an early age, he showed extraordinary creativity. His "Blue Sea Love", "The Fifth Element" and other films are said to have been drafted at an early age. If it weren't for an accident at the age of 17, Luc Besson would probably have become a professional diver and marine biologist. However, perhaps he has to thank the diving accident that almost killed him. Although he could no longer dive into the bottom of the sea he loved as a child, he became the most influential director in France in the 1990s, and was even called "Europe's Steven Spielberg". Luc Besson entered the film industry at the age of seventeen, and directed the first feature film "Final Battle", a silent film. The film won the jury and critique awards at the 1983 Avoriaz Film Festival in one fell swoop. In 1985, his second work, "Underground", hit the scene. "Blue Sea and Blue Sky", which started in 1986, became the opening film of the 1988 Cannes International Film Festival. In 1990, "Nikita" was another global box office hit for Besson. In 1991, Besson directed "Atlantis". In this underwater journey without dialogue, dolphins, whales and sharks were the only characters. After that, Besson directed "This Killer Is Not Too Cold" in New York. The film starring Jean Reno became the most popular French film in the world in 1995. In 1997, Besson returned to Cannes with his work, and "The Fifth Element" was the opening film of the festival that year. Besson also won the Caesar Award for Best Director for this film. For the eighth film, Besson turned to a new genre: epic films. Mira Jovovich became Joan of Arc, adding a flavor to the film. In 1998, Mr. Besson was a writer, producer and non-director in the hugely successful first installment of the "Taxi" series. In 2000, Mr. Besson made a major producer push, producing "Weekend Vacation," "Corporate Warrior" and "Kiss of the Dragon." A follow-up film starring Jean Reno, "Fast Track," was a huge box office hit in France and Japan. In 2001, Mr. Besson and Pierre-Ann Le Bergème formed a new European film production company, Europa Pictures. They produce four to eight films a year and are personally involved in every important step of production, including production, theatrical distribution, audiovisual product market release, and even international sales of their films.
