Born March 4, 1905 in Wujin, Jiangsu. Died March 27, 1984 in Beijing. Formerly known as Xu Liang, pen names Xu Yinqiu, Xu Weibing, Zhao Xiqing. Graduated from Shanghai Chinese Vocational School in 1922. In 1926, he assisted Zou Taofen in organizing the "Life" weekly magazine. After the "September 18" incident, he and Zou Taofen used words and pictures to expose the aggression and atrocities of the Japanese invaders in the "Life" weekly. In 1932, together with Zou Taofen, he founded the Life Bookstore and served as the general manager. In 1944, he joined the Communist Party of China. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he founded the "Democracy" weekly magazine in Shanghai with Zheng Zhenduo and others. In 1945, he participated in the establishment of the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy and served as a director. In 1946, he was elected as a director of the Shanghai Federation of People's Organizations. In 1948, he served as the general manager of the Sanlian Bookstore of Life, Reading and New Knowledge in Hong Kong. In April 1949, he served as a member of the Publication Committee of the Central Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China. In September of the same year, he attended the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as deputy director of the General Office of the General Administration of Publishing of the Central People's Government, director of distribution management and general manager of Xinhua Bookstore, deputy director of the Film Bureau of the Ministry of Culture, member of the Publishing Committee of the Ministry He is a member of the second and third National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the fourth, fifth and sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Standing Committee, and a representative of the first, second, third and fifth National People's Congress.
