After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Wu Zelin moved to Guiyang with some teachers and students of Daxia University. In February 1941, he went to Kunming Southwest United University to teach. From 1943 to 1945, he concurrently served as the deputy director of the Kunming Translator Training Class, presided over the training of about 3,000 college students, and served as interpreters for the US Army's anti-Japanese combat troops in China. In 1946, he served as the head of the Department of Anthropology and provost of Tsinghua University. His book "Social Constraint" is the earliest sociological work in China devoted to the issue of social control. He emphasized the relevance of social control and believed that the whole society must play the role of such control in order to ensure the normal operation of society. He also clearly distinguished the tools and methods of social control.
