On August 28, 2001 (July 10, 2001 in the lunar calendar), the NGO Forum of the Anti-Racism Conference was held in South Africa. The NGO Forum of the United Nations Conference against Racism opened in Durban, South Africa on August 28, 2001. South African President Mbeki called for compensation to the victims of the slave trade, colonialism and racism. In his opening speech, Mbeki pointed out that the slave trade, colonial rule and racism are a dark page in human history. This historical fact should be recognized unconditionally and its injustice should be unequivocally condemned. "Certain countries should take practical actions to eliminate the legacy of the slave trade, colonial rule and racism." He emphasized that the majority of black people used to be the biggest victims of the slave trade, colonial rule and racism, and now they are the biggest victims of economic globalization. If we cannot unite under the world's call to unite against racism, the NGO Forum and the United Nations Anti-Racism Conference will lose their meaning. Ms. Robinson, Chairman of the United Nations Human Rights Commission, criticized U.S. Secretary of State Powell for not attending the World Conference against Racism, arguing that "any country should send representatives to attend such an important conference." Representatives from five non-governmental organizations, including the All-China Women's Federation of China, the China Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the China Human Rights Commission, the United Nations Association of China and the China Association for the Promotion of Glory, attended the meeting.
