On this day, 44 years ago, on May 13, 1981 (April 10, 1981, the lunar calendar), the state established the science foundation system. On May 13, 1981, the 4th Faculty Committee Conference of China Academy of Sciences was held in Beijing. Party and state leaders Deng Xiaoping, Peng Zhen, Deng Yingchao and others attended the meeting. At this conference, 89 scientists jointly proposed to the Party Central Committee and the State Council the establishment of academic funds. The Natural Science Foundation mainly supports basic research in natural sciences in my country. In the 10 years from 1981 to 1991, more than 20,000 scientific research projects and more than 100 key projects were funded using the natural science fund allocated by the state, which effectively promoted the development of basic scientific research in my country. After receiving funding, more than 100,000 scientific and technological personnel, masters, doctors and hundreds of postdoctoral students have won the National Natural Science Award, the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the National Invention Award many times, and many scientific research results have been transformed into productivity. The establishment of the Natural Science Fund has played a huge role in encouraging the inventions and creations of scientific and technological personnel.
