On this day, 66 years ago, September 15, 1959 (August 13, 1959 in the lunar calendar), the Camp David Conference between the United States and the Soviet Union. From September 15 to 28, 1959, Khrushchev visited the United States and held three-day talks with U.S. President Eisenhower at Camp David, the U.S. presidential villa, 100 kilometers away from Washington, and issued a communiqué of the talks. This was the first meeting between the heads of state of the Soviet Union and the United States since Khrushchev came to power. During the Camp David talks, Khrushchev held a series of discussions with Eisenhower on Germany, Berlin, disarmament, US-Soviet relations and other issues. Since then, the Soviet Union has vigorously promoted the "Camp David Spirit" and advocated that if the leaders of the Soviet Union and the United States sit together, human history has entered a new turning point." But only seven months after the meeting, an incident of US U-2 aircraft invading the Soviet Union occurred. The Soviet Union announced that it would cancel its invitation to Eisenhower to visit the Soviet Union. Relations between the Soviet Union and the United States became tense and the two countries launched a new competition. In June 1959, on the eve of the Camp David talks, the Soviet government perfidious and one-sidedly tore up the agreement signed between China and the Soviet Union on new national defense technologies, refusing to provide China with atomic bomb samples and technical information for the production of atomic bombs. On September 9, the Soviet Tass news agency issued a statement on the Sino-Indian border dispute, openly favoring the Indian Nehru government and opposing China, as a meeting letter for talks in the United States. Just after the Camp David talks ended, Khrushchev came to Beijing to persuade China to "not use force to test the stability of the capitalist system."
