Thirty-four years ago today, on July 12, 1991 (June 1, 1991), the largest robbery in Hong Kong since the opening of the port 167.60 million Hong Kong dollars were robbed. Hong Kong's largest ever heist at Kai Tak Airport took place on the morning of July 12, 1991. Four well-planned gunmen stole a total of 167.60 million Hong Kong dollars of US dollars and Hong Kong dollars approved for shipment to Taiwan near the administration building of the airport's cargo terminal. The stolen money included 17 million US dollars and 3 million Hong Kong dollars, which belonged to a bank in New York, USA. The whole robbery process lasted only 25 minutes. During the robbery, the robbers did not fire a single shot. Four guards on the money truck were hijacked and tied up.
