On this day, 87 years ago, on December 18, 1938 (October 27, 1938, the Chinese version of "Journey to the West" was publicly released. In December 1939, the Chinese translation of Edgar Snow's "A Rambling Journey to the West" was published. The original name of the 1937 English version of Victor Gorantz Company in London was "Red Star Shines on China", which was renamed "Journey to the West" when it was translated and published by Shanghai Rehabilitation Press. The book was the author's venture to interview the northern Shaanxi Base Area of the Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army in June 1936. Records of the base area are the first long work to faithfully report the actual situation in the red base area. Most of the material comes from first-hand information interviewed by the author. Through contacts and exchanges with leaders of the Communist Party of China Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Liu Zhidan, He Long, Peng Dehuai, etc., as well as the vast number of Red Army soldiers, farmers, workers, and intellectuals, the author learned about the political, military, economic, cultural, and life of the revolutionary base areas. The real situation accurately, vividly and vividly reflects the struggle achievements of the Communist Party of China and the Workers and Peasants Red Army.
