On July 27, 2006 (July 3, 2006 lunar calendar), 88 new bricks with cuneiform inscriptions were discovered in Iran. On July 27, 2006, archaeologists recently discovered 88 bricks with cuneiform inscriptions in the famous pagoda of Chogazanbil in Iran. These bricks belong to the ancient Iranian Elan period (3400 BC to 550 BC). Hedarizadeh, head of the restoration team of the Chogazanbil site, said that when the staff was repairing the middle part of the pagoda, they accidentally found these bricks in the rubble pile next to the northeast wall and the southeast wall. Most of them were badly damaged, and only a small part was intact. Mr. Hedarizadeh said that the content of the cuneiform writing on the bricks could not yet be determined, but it was expected to be similar to the writing on the engraved bricks previously found elsewhere in the shrine. The cuneiform engraved bricks have not been mentioned in any of the many accounts of the excavation of the shrine of Chogazanbil. The site of Chogazanbil is one of eight Iranian monuments listed by Unesco on the World Heritage List, located in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, about 40 kilometers southeast of the ruins of Susa, the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Elam. The city of Chogazanbil was built around 1250 BC and was dedicated to the cow god who guarded the city of Susa. Its main body is a ziggurat, along with several temples and 3 palaces.
