On June 29, 2010 (May 18, 2010 lunar calendar), the "Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement" (ECFA) was signed. On the afternoon of June 29, 2010, the ARATS and the SEF held a signing ceremony at the Sofitel Shenji Hotel in Chongqing to officially sign the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) and the Cross-Strait Intellectual Property Protection Cooperation Agreement, marking the institutionalization of cross-Strait economic and trade cooperation. The full name of the ECFA is the "Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement" (EconomicCooperationFrameworkAgreement), which is an economic cooperation agreement of a special nature across the Taiwan Strait. In line with the basic principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the two sides take into account the economic conditions of both sides, gradually reduce or eliminate trade and investment barriers between them, and create a fair trade and investment environment. Through the agreement, further enhance the trade and investment relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and establish a cooperation mechanism that is conducive to the prosperity and development of the cross-strait economy. The two sides exchanged views on the name of the agreement, the basic structure, and the establishment of the negotiation working mechanism, and reached a number of consensuses. In the following five months from February to June 2010, the two sessions held two expert working consultations in Taoyuan, Taiwan and Beijing respectively, gradually finalizing the text of the agreement and the early harvest plan and other important content.
