Former Catholic Pope Gregory XIV was born
On February 11, 1535, former Catholic Pope Gregory XIV was born.
character brief introduction
Gregorian XIV, formerly known as Nicolo Sfonderola, was born in the province of Varese in the Duchy of Milan. His family belonged to the highest class in Milan society, but he lived a restrained life and was famous for his pity. His mother was born in the Visconti family and died when he was born. His father was a member of the Senate of Milan and was promoted to cardinal by Pope Paul III in 1544. Gregory XIV studied in Perugia and Padua, became a priest, was promoted to bishop in 1560, and participated in the Council of Tranto from 1561 to 1563, which discussed the division of the Church. Pope Gregory XIII promoted him to the rank of cardinal on December 12, 1583.
Gregory XIV was not yet sixty when he ascended to the pontiff, but he was frail and sickly, and had a problem of laughing involuntarily and nervously, as happened when he was crowned. He felt that he was struggling, and he was not new, and he rarely asked about specific things. All the affairs of the Holy See were presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Antonio Faccinetti (later Innocent IX). Gregory XIV died in 1591 after a year on the throne, dying of a large kidney stone.
Vatican Pope
The Pope is also known as "Pope", which is translated from the Latin papa, which means "Father". It was originally a general honorific title for his clergy in ancient Catholics, and there are still priests in the Eastern Church. After Catholicism became the state religion of the Roman Empire, the bishops of Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem all used this title to denote their patriarchate title, and the bishop of Rome believed that this title referred only to the leader of the Western Church. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the bishop of Rome became the supreme head of the Western Church, and in 756, King Pepin of France "offered his soil" and formed the secular regime of the "Papal State" in Italy. The title "papa" gradually became unique to the bishop of Rome and began to form the meaning of "Pope". By the 11th century, Bishop Gregory VII of Rome had monopolized the name "papa", thus formalizing the papacy of the Western Roman Catholic Church.
Key words: February 11, 1535, Catholic Church, Pope Gregory
