Forty-one years ago today, on March 13, 1984 (February 11, 1984 in the lunar calendar), Taiwan announced the implementation of the "free economic policy". On March 13, 1984, Zhao Yaodong, Minister of the "Ministry of Economic Affairs" of the Taiwan authorities, announced the implementation of the "partial and planned free economic policy" at the "Legislative Yuan". The main contents are: 1. Gradually remove the protection of restricting imports and open up foreigners to invest and set up factories in Taiwan; 2. Cancel the current self-control rate review method and use tariffs to achieve the same purpose; 3. Relax the restrictions on overseas Chinese and foreign-funded manufacturing companies concurrently operating export businesses, and take selective opening measures for concurrent exports. The entire policy is scheduled to gradually eliminate the tax rebate system within five years, and instead implement free competition. Its general trend is to "open the market and stimulate the economy." The fundamental intention is to introduce competition and stimulate the internal economy in order to achieve the purpose of product upgrading. Implementing this policy, some "infant industries" are still properly protected, not "laissez-faire", so it is also called "restrictive free economic policy."
