North Korean Navy General Yi Shunchen has passed away

Yi Shunchen
On December 16, 1598, the general of the Korean Navy, Yi Shunchen, passed away.
In December 1598, in the Battle of Luliang, Li Shunchen and Chen Lin commanded the combined fleet to defeat the enemy's fleet, but they were shot and killed while pursuing the fleeing enemy. Two years later, the imperial court honored him as a first-class Xuanli hero in recognition of his achievements. In 1643, 45 years after his death, he was given the posthumous title "Zhongwu". From then on, the people of the Korean Peninsula remembered him by calling him "Zhongwu Duke" and posthumously promoted him as Righteous Government, Left Government and Lingyi Government. His posthumous works were compiled into "The Complete Works of Li Zhongwu Duke".
During the Japanese invasion of Korea, Japan successfully blocked the invading Japanese army several times. Among them, the Battle of Naruyama was a famous battle in the history of world naval warfare. In addition, there were the Battle of Xianshan Island and the Battle of Luliang.
Xianzhong Temple, which houses the memorial tablet of General Li Shunchen, was built in 1706. It is located at the foot of Fanghua Mountain. It is surrounded by mountains and shaded by pines and cypresses. Xianzhong Temple covers an area of more than 500,000 square meters. In addition to the "main hall", there are also ancient buildings such as "No.","Ancient House","Family Temple" and wells used by the Li family. Regarding the historical data of General Li Shunchen and the weapons and other objects he used during the naval battle with the Japanese pirates, copies of the eight gifts given to him by the Ming emperor, including the Dudu Seal, Token and Knife, are carefully preserved in the "Relics Museum". Every April 28, the day when Li Shunchen was born, Xianzhong Temple holds sacrificial activities. Xianzhong Temple was once dilapidated under the cruel suppression of Japanese imperialism. After Japan surrendered in 1945, activities to commemorate Duke Zhongwu were resumed.
In 1966, the South Korean government turned this place into a "sanctuary" and rebuilt the Hsien Chung Temple. The comprehensive landscape project of the park continued until 1974. In addition, outside the South Korean National Assembly in Seoul (Seoul), there is a statue of Li Shunchen; the South Korean Navy escort ship "Zhongwu Duke Li Shunchen"; he and the statue of Lee's Korean Sejong stand in front of the Gwanghwamun Square of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea, showing his high status in the eyes of the South Korean people. In the Republic of Korea, many schools have statues of Tankun and King Sejong at the same time as the statue of Zhongwu. The Zhongwu Road in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is named to commemorate Li Shunchen's historical achievements. In Longdusan Park in Busan, there is also a bronze statue of General Li Shunchen. In addition, his face appears on the country's 100-won coins. The KDX-II destroyer developed by the South Korean Navy is known as the Zhongwu Duke Lee Sun-sun class destroyer.
