On the 16th, Fu Zuoyi went to Jining in person, and ordered Dong Qiwu to lead his troops to raid the Japanese puppet army. On the night of the 17th, the participating troops were Zhuozishan and Jining. They quickly moved to the Dandaigou area of Honggeertuxi and suddenly launched a counterattack against the Japanese puppet army. At 2:00 am on the 19th, Dong commanded 3 infantry regiments, 1 cavalry regiment and artillery battalions to encircle and wipe out the Japanese puppet army. The enemy warehouse responded to the battle, fought fiercely until dawn, and retreated in embarrassment. The Battle of Honggeertu. began from the 13th to the end of the 19th. The battle lasted for 7 days and nights, repelling the attack of the Japanese puppet army, destroying the command posts of Takagi Tanaka and Wang Ying, and seizing a large amount of military supplies. Gong Ying even didn't have time to take away the carriage he was riding

After the fiasco defeat in Honggetu, the pseudo-Mongol army changed to the Bailing Temple as the center and invaded Suibei. Fu Zuoyi decided to take pre-emptive action to recover the Bailing Temple by using long-distance attack tactics before the Japanese and puppet attacks to destroy its lair. Fu decided at the military meeting held in Guisui New Town to gather three cavalry regiments, three infantry regiments, and one artillery and armored vehicle unit. Sun Changsheng, the commander of the 2nd Cavalry Division, and Sun Lanfeng, the commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, served as the former enemy commander and deputy commander-in-chief to retake the Bailing Temple. After the meeting, the participating troops assembled near the town of Erzi, 35 kilometers south of the Bailing Temple.

On the night of the 23rd, the officers and men of each unit braved the temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius and knee-free snow to advance to the front of the enemy's position and began to attack at 0:00 on the 24th. Due to the secrecy of the Fu Bu operation, the Japanese puppet army was unaware in advance and heard the sound of gunshots, so they panicked and resisted.
