February 25, 1881, was the birth of William Foster, one of the founders of the Communist Party of the United States. The victory of the Russian October Revolution in 1917 prompted Foster to go from a radical labor struggle to a struggle for communism. Shortly after the founding of the Communist Party of the United States in May 1921, he secretly joined the Communist Party and was elected to the Central Committee.

In the 1920s, he enjoyed high prestige among party members and the working class because of his heroic struggle for the interests of the working class. In 1924, he was elected to the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of America, and from 1929 to 1944, he was elected chairperson of the party.

In 1933, after Roosevelt actually called the "New Deal" in the United States, Browder, the general secretary of the Communist Party of the United States, demanded that the American working class and the monopoly bourgeoisie implement class cooperation. Foster resolutely put forward a different opinion. However, his correct opinion was opposed by the majority at the enlarged meeting of the Political Committee held on February 8, 1944. On May 20, the Communist Party of the United States announced its dissolution, and Foster was also removed as the chairperson of the Communist Party of the United States. When the Communist Party of the United States announced its reconstruction in July 1945, Foster was elected as the chairperson of the party.

After Khrushchev's "secret report" of attacking Stalin at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956 was made public in the New York Daily, revisionists in the party, represented by Gates, believed that class struggle no longer existed in the United States and that the Communist Party should be reorganized into a non-party political group. At this time, Foster, who was old and seriously ill, stood up again and immediately launched a tit-for-tat struggle to expel Gates from the Communist Party. On September 1, 1957, this outstanding communist soldier finally suffered from cerebral hemorrhage and was treated with ineffective treatment. Died away in Moscow.
