On this day, 78 years ago, on July 13, 1947 (May 25, 1947 in the lunar calendar), a batch of dinosaur fossils were discovered in the United States. On July 13, 1947, a team from the American Museum of Natural History in New York discovered the remains of the first American dinosaurs that lived in the Americas 200 million years ago. Complete skeletons of these reptiles were found 100 miles north of Albuquerque. The "true predecessor of the dinosaur", which has no name, has been described as a small, ferocious predator. The animal is about 3- 4 feet long and no smaller than a chicken or larger than a horse. They are in stark contrast to the 40-ton Tyrannosaurus rex that roamed the earth 100 million years later by its descendants.
