During the Revolution of 1911, he led farmers in the anti-Qing struggle in the Baofeng area. In 1913, he moved to Hubei, Anhui, and Henan. He put forward the slogan of "fighting the rich and helping the poor" and burned churches wherever he went to crack down on foreign missionaries who harmed the China people, causing great panic among imperialism and Yuan Shikai. Yuan Shikai sent Army Chief Duan Qirui to lead 200,000 troops to besiege him. The Rebel Army avoided its main force and broke through the west. In 1914, the team grew to more than 10,000 people and was known as the "army of citizens to fight against thieves." In the name of the Grand Governor, he issued a denunciation denouncing Yuan Shikai for "practicing autocracy despite pretending to be a republic." Notices were posted all over the place, denouncing "Yuan's thief Shikai, his wolf's ambition, and his will was the law, but he still wanted the emperor to govern himself."
