Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On June 5, 1910, short story master O. Henry died
On this day, 115 years ago, on June 5, 1910 (April 28, 1910), the master of the short story, O. Henry, died. William Sidney Porter, the author of the short story under the pseudonym O. Henry, died in New York on the morning of June 5, 1910. His departure was as swift and unexpected as the end of the story he wrote. He died of complications. Born in 1862 in northern Carolina, Porter worked at the Houston Post newspaper as a young man. In 1896, he was arrested for embezzling money from the Bank of Austin. He fled to Honduras and then returned to face reality. Porter was sentenced to three years in prison, and he completed his hard labor. However, while in the penitentiary, Potter wrote some of his best novels, with vivid, twisty and satirical plots. Two collections of essays, "Cabbage and the King" (1904) and "Four Million" (1906), are among his finest.
