Seventy-five years ago today, on August 20, 1950 (July 7, 1950 in the lunar calendar), the rural areas began to be divided into class components. On August 20, 1950, the State Council announced the "Decision on the Division of Class Components in Rural Areas", and all rural areas in the country began to be divided. According to regulations, those who own land and do not work themselves but rely on exploitation for a living are landlords. The main mode of exploitation is to collect land rent, occupy or rent land, have relatively good production tools and active capital, and participate in a small part of labor but mainly exploit wage labor for a living. Those who own or rent land, have equivalent tools, and directly engage in labor and make a living are middle peasants. Those who rent land for farming, have incomplete tools, and are exploited by landlords and farmers are poor peasants. Those who have no land or tools and live mainly by selling their labor force are workers (including farm laborers). The "Decision" stipulates that: juveniles under the age of 18 and young students in school are generally not divided into categories, but only divided into family backgrounds; landlords and rich peasants who obey laws and regulations after land reform, work hard to produce, and have not reactionary behavior for 5 years or more, may be reclassified according to relevant procedures.
