On October 30, 1979, American scientists first detected antimatter flows in interstellar space
On this day, 46 years ago, October 30, 1979 (September 10, 1979, the lunar calendar), American scientists measured the flow of antimatter in interstellar space for the first time. The picture shows my country's magnetic spectrometer for exploring antimatter and dark matter. On October 30, 1979, American scientists recently used high-altitude balloons to measure antimatter flows in interstellar space. This is the first time antimatter has been discovered outside of a laboratory on earth. Scientific researchers at New Mexico State University recently placed a 60-story helium-filled balloon at an altitude of 35 kilometers. The balloon was loaded with 5000 pounds of highly sensitive scientific instrumentation, including a 300-pound low-temperature superconducting magnet. The balloon flew high for eight hours, and its detector's magnetic field detected 28 antiprotons. Scientists believe that this discovery will have an important impact on the study of the origin of the universe. According to reports, science studying elementary particles concluded decades ago that every normal particle may have corresponding antiparticles with opposite charges. For example, electrons with negative electricity have positive antielectrons, and protons with positive electricity have negative antiprotons. Moreover, in laboratory experiments, when matter and antimatter collide, both particles disappear, creating energy and new particles. One of the confusing problems in modern astronomy and cosmology is the apparent lack of discovery of antimatter in space. One theory of the universe holds that equal amounts of matter and antimatter were formed at the beginning of the universe. In order to explain why antimatter has not been discovered in space, some astronomers believe that due to the inherent instability of antimatter, antimatter has decayed since the founding of the universe. This major discovery by American scientists denies this explanation, which proves that antiprotons, the main form of antimatter, are stable and can exist for millions of years.
