Moreover, in laboratory experiments, when matter and antimatter collide, both particles disappear, creating energy and new particles. One of the confusing problems in modern astronomy and cosmology is the apparent lack of discovery of antimatter in space. One theory of the universe holds that equal amounts of matter and antimatter were formed at the beginning of the universe. In order to explain why antimatter has not been discovered in space, some astronomers believe that due to the inherent instability of antimatter, antimatter has decayed since the founding of the universe. This major discovery by American scientists denies this explanation, which proves that antiprotons, the main form of antimatter, are stable and can exist for millions of years.
