On July 31, 2007 (June 18, 2007 in the lunar calendar), the United Nations dispatched a hybrid peacekeeping force to the Darfur issue in Sudan to make progress. On July 31, 2007, the UN Security Council passed a resolution deciding to send a UN-AU hybrid peacekeeping force of about 26,000 personnel to the Darfur region of Sudan. On October 27, the Sudanese government and anti-government factions resumed peace talks in Sirte, Libya, which is a new starting point for the international community to promote the Darfur peace process and a new opportunity for dialogue between the Sudanese government and anti-government factions. China has played a constructive role in resolving the Darfur issue. The first advance detachment of the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment arrived in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, on November 24, becoming the first UN peacekeeping force to be stationed in the region. This is the headquarters of the United Nations and African Union (AU) Hybrid Peacekeeping Force in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, Sudan, on November 1, 2007. The headquarters of the United Nations and African Union Hybrid Peacekeeping Force in West Darfur, Sudan, was officially opened in El Fasher on October 31.
