For the second consecutive year, China has become the world's second largest attracting foreign investment country after the United States. The report said that global foreign direct investment in 1995 will reach US$235 billion, an increase from US$226 billion in 1994. These investments come from 40,000 multinational companies and their 250,000 subsidiaries around the world. A new trend in 1995 was a rapid increase in foreign direct investment from small and medium-sized transnational corporations from developed and developing countries. Currently, 15% of foreign direct investment comes from developing countries. Developing countries also received 37% of global foreign direct investment, reaching US$90 billion in 1995. China has become the world's second largest recipient of foreign direct investment for the second consecutive year. In 1994, it was US$34 billion. More are expected in 1995. On the other hand, China's multinational companies are increasingly becoming important foreign direct investors. By the end of 1994, more than 900 China multinational companies had established 4600 subsidiaries in 130 overseas countries. During the period 1990-1994, its annual direct investment overseas averaged US$2.4 billion. The United States remains the world's largest foreign direct investor and recipient of foreign direct investment. In 1994, it invested US$46 billion in foreign direct investment and received US$49 billion in foreign direct investment.
