Clement Richard Attlee (1883.1.3-1967.10.8) Clement Richard Attlee (1883-1967), Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Attlee was born in Putney, London on January 3, 1883. He graduated from Oxford University in 1905 and became a lawyer. He taught at the London School of Economics. Participated in the First World War. In 1922, he was elected as a member of the House of Commons for the Labour Party. In 1924 and 1929, he served in the McDonald government. In 1935, he became leader of the British Labor Party. In May 1940, he served as Minister of the Seal of Churchill's government, a member of the wartime cabinet and de facto deputy prime minister. In February 1942, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (successively serving as Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs and President of the Privy Council). In July 1945, he became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom due to the Labor Party's victory in the general election, replacing Churchill. During his tenure, he participated in the Potsdam Conference. He retired in December 1955 and was made Earl. He died on October 8, 1967.
