959 years ago today, on September 28, 1066 (the seventh day of the ninth lunar month), the Norman Conquest took place.
On September 28, 1066, William, Duke of Normandy, led an army of more than 6,000 men across the English Channel in more than 500 ships, and landed at Pevensey Bay in southwest England at 9 am without any resistance. On October 14, William's army defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, then occupied London, and was crowned King of England at Westminster Abbey in London on Christmas Day. This historical event is known as the "Norman Conquest".
