An abandoned slag mountain collapsed and buried the rural primary school. The disaster killed 147 people, and an entire generation of primary school students in the village virtually disappeared. When the collapse occurred, children were gathering to prepare for an early meeting. Within seconds, Pantgrass Kindergarten and Primary School and surrounding buildings were buried under 2 million tons of slag, stone and slime. This school was supposed to have a mid-term holiday starting at noon. Rescue work was carried out throughout the day and lasted throughout the night. More than 2000 police, firefighters, civil defense workers and volunteers dug a 45-foot tunnel through the slag to find bodies and search for survivors. When the first batch of bodies were carried out one after another and the truth of the entire tragedy began to become clear, the numb reporters and police officers couldn't help but cry and shed tears.
