April 16, 2014 South Korea shipwreck
On April 16, 2014 (March 17, 2014 in the lunar calendar), the South Korean passenger ship "Seo" sank in a flooding accident. The picture shows the passenger ship "Year" almost completely sinking, and rescuers climbed onto the hull to rescue. At about 8:58 am on April 16, 2014, a passenger ship "SEWOL" carrying more than 470 passengers suffered a flooding accident and sank in the waters of southwestern South Korea. After the accident, the Ministry of Safety Administration of South Korea established the Central Disaster Safety Headquarters (referred to as the "Safety Headquarters") that morning to be responsible for emergency and proper handling of emergency response work. The "Safety Headquarters" held an emergency press conference that morning and said that as of 11 a.m., the passenger ship had completely sunk. Since then, the Coast Guard said that a dead person was found. It is reported that the deceased was a woman and a staff member of the passenger ship. Another press conference was held on the afternoon of the 16th on the sinking of a passenger ship carrying more than 400 people in South Korean waters that day. South Korean officials said at the meeting that 164 people had been rescued so far, and 121 people had been confirmed dead as of the 22nd. At present, a total of 16 helicopters and 24 search ships dispatched by the South Korean Navy, Fire, Police, Coast Guard, etc. to carry out emergency rescue operations in the incident area. Fishing boats operating at nearby seas also rushed to the scene to participate in the rescue work. The South Korean Security Headquarters said that the exact time and cause of the accident are not yet known. After the incident, President Park Geun-hye instructed relevant departments to carry out rescue work to avoid casualties. It is reported that the passenger ship "Seo" departed from Incheon Port at about 9 p.m. on the 15th and an accident occurred on its way to Jeju. Among the passengers were 338 students and teachers from Tanyuan High School in Ansan City, Gyeonggi Province. They took this passenger ship for their study trip. A relevant person from Tanyuan High School said that the passenger ship was originally planned to depart from Incheon Port at about 7 pm on the 15th, but was delayed by about one and a half hours due to foggy weather. It is understood that all the students on board are wearing life jackets and waiting for rescue. It is reported that the current seawater temperature in the Jindo area is 13 degrees, and one can survive for 6 hours when falling into the water. However, most of the people who fell into the water were teenagers, so the speed of rescue was very high. The Consular Department of the China Embassy in South Korea confirmed to People's Daily reporter Wan Yu that there were no China citizens on board. At present, South Korean President Park Geun-hye has issued instructions to make every effort to rescue the sinking passenger ship in the waters near Jindo. On the 22nd, two bodies of China were found in a sinking ship in South Korea. As of 10:10 local time, all passengers on board had jumped into the sea, and the generator inside the ship had been turned off. At present, all 338 high school students on the passenger ship have been rescued, and a female employee of the company to which the passenger ship belongs and a male passenger have died.
