On April 4, 2008 (February 28, 2008 in the lunar calendar), Zimbabwe issued the world's largest denomination of 50 million Jinyuan banknotes. The Central Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe announced that it will issue the world's largest denomination of 50 million Zimbabwe yuan banknotes starting from the 4th of this month to alleviate the current cash shortage problem in Zimbabwe's market. This is the third time that the country's Reserve Bank has issued ultra-large-denomination notes since December last year. In January this year, the Reserve Bank launched banknotes with denominations of 10 million Tianjin yuan, 5 million Tianjin yuan and 1 million Tianjin yuan.
