The multimillion-dollar banker arrived in Egypt by boat from New York in January, just weeks after a congressional hearing opened to investigate financial trusts 'control of U.S. businesses. At the trial, he seemed in good health, but after arriving in Cairo, he fell ill before he could go to Rome. Morgan's doctors believe he died from extreme nervous exhaustion. After the news of his death was announced, Italian King Viktor Emmanuel, Pope Pius X and hundreds of old friends in and abroad sent letters of condolence.
