He has served successively as President of the Central Party School, Minister of Organization of the Central Committee, Minister of Urban Industry of the Central Committee, Minister of United Front Work of the Central Committee, Director of the Central Ethnic Affairs Commission, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the First and Second National People's Congress, member of the Political Bureau of the Fifth CPC Central Committee, and 12th CPC Central Committee Deputy Director of the Advisory Committee. Author of "Memory and Research". The eldest son, Li Tieying, was a member of the 12th to 15th Central Committees of the Communist Party of China. The second son, Li Tielin, is a member of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
