On this day 70 years ago, on January 18, 1955 (December 25, 1954 lunar calendar), the landing battle on Yijiangshan Island. The Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force first put in a fleet to cover the landing troops. On January 18, 1955, in order to combat the arrogance of the Kuomintang army and realize the determination of the Central Military Commission to liberate the islands along the southeast coast of Zhejiang, the East China Military Region of the People's Liberation Army launched the landing operation on Jiangshan Island on January 18 with 1 infantry division, 137 ships of various types, and 22 aviation brigades. The entire landing operation on Yijiangshan Island lasted 10 hours, killing 519 Kuomintang troops, capturing 567 people, sinking 3 warships, and wounding 4 ships. After Yijiangshan Island was conquered, the Kuomintang troops entrenched in the islands of Dachen lost their outer barriers and were forced to flee to Taiwan under the cover of the US armed forces. Although the scale of Yijiangshan Island's sea crossing landing operation was small, it had far-reaching implications. This was the first joint operation of our army, sea and air forces against the enemy of the offshore islands. It gained very valuable experience in coordinated landing operations and fired the first shot of victory for the complete liberation of the coastal islands of Zhejiang.
